หลังจากที่ปล่อยเวอร์ชั่น Firefox 15 ได้เพียงไม่กี่วัน ทางค่าย Mozilla ก็ได้เตรียมพัฒนาและปล่อยเวอร์ชั่นทดลอง Firefox 16.0 Beta 1 มาให้ทดสอบกันอย่างต่อเนื่อง โดยได้มีการพัฒนา ปรับปรุงแก้ไขในด้านการทำงานให้มีประสิทธิภาพและความสามารถ พร้อมทดสอบฟีเจอร์ใหม่ๆ ก่อนนำมาใช้งานจริงในเวอร์ชั่นเต็ม
การปรับปรุงแก้ไขและพัฒนาพร้อมเพิ่มฟีเจอร์ใหม่ๆ มีดังนี้
- Firefox for the Mac now has VoiceOver support turned on by default
- Web App Support (Windows/Mac/Linux)
- Improved our experimental support for reading pdf files in the browser using PDF.js, please report issues to Firefox:PDF Viewer
- No longer supporting MD5 as a hash algorithm in digital signatures
- Opus support by default
- Reverse animation direction has been implemented
- Per tab reporting in about:memory
- User Agent strings for pre-release Firefox versions now show only major version
